What do I need to know?

This cake smash session guide will take you through everything you need to know about what happens before, during and after the session.

What To Expect

The session will last approx 45 minutes. When you bring your little one into the studio, it might be a bit overwhelming for them. Although the session is earmarked at 45 minutes, there isn’t any reason why we need to hurry the session to be this length of time. If your little one wants to play with the numerous amount of toys I have to ease them in, then we have plenty of time to do that.

I say to everyone booking in to a cake smash session; prepare for mess! As much as I love to get some lovely photos with little one before the cake comes out, their clothes, face, and probably hair will be covered in cake and icing before you know it! Please bring a spare change of clothes for going home in

My Studio

Located on the edge of leighton Buzzard, my studio is based in my home, creating a warm and calming environment. With a parking spot directly in front of the front door, you’ll be able to walk straight through to the back of the house where I will have the studio set up and waiting. Take a seat on the sofa, where we will have time for me to make you a hot drink and you’ll have time to relax a moment before we get yourselves and little one ready for the session.

During the session

The first part of the session will be for us to get some ‘pretty’ pictures of your little one. Often parents have a lovely outfit planned that they want to show off before it gets messy, so we do that right at the beginning, before the chance of any mess.

Once the cake comes out, I’ll try to get some pictures of little one and the cake together before they tuck in. Although, this sometimes isn’t possible if they decide to jump straight in!

What to wear

Normally for a newborn session I advise warm tone browns, beiges and neutral colours. Some parents would like the same colour palate to run through all age group pictures, while others prefer to inject a bit of their childs personality that has developed, for example if your child loves the colour yellow, i’m sure they would love it if they had a beautiful yellow jumper on

After the session

Once all the cake smashing has finished, there is plenty time to clean up your little one and get them changed. Depending on how messy they are, you’re more than welcome to put them in the bath!

Up to 2 weeks after the session you’ll receive an email with the link to the gallery of carefully selected, 40+ images. You’ll be able to look through your images, with the online gallery staying available for a minimum of a year. You’ll be able to select the 5 images you want to download as part of the session by using the ‘favourite’ function. Let me know when you’ve chosen, and I’ll send them to you via email. Via the gallery you’ll be able to upgrade your package, order prints, or share the gallery with friends and family.
