Newborn Session Guide

This newborn session guide will take you through everything you need to know about what happens before, during and after the session.

I can’t wait to welcome you into the studio with your newest addition to your family

What To Expect

The session will last 1 1/2 – 2 hours. A sleepy baby is a happy baby for a session like this, so I advise to feed your little one once you arrive to help settle them. There’s plenty of time factored in to allow feeding and changing, so there is absolutely no rush.

Although everyone loves the sleepy pictures, if baby doesn’t want to sleep during the time we have together that is perfectly fine as well, sometimes babies just don’t sleep when we want them to! I have had plenty of sessions with awake babies and I will always try to get some pictures where it looks like baby is peacefully asleep.

For older siblings I recommend bringing snacks and something to entertain them with.

Baby will be in their nappy wrapped in a swaddle and blanket. The room will be at a perfect temperature for when they are wrapped but at the end of the session, when they get unwrapped from the swaddle, they may feel a little startled so may get fussy. Again, there is plenty of time to feed and settle, don’t feel like you have to rush out the door at the end of the session!

My Studio

Located on the edge of leighton Buzzard, my studio is based in my home, creating a warm and calming environment. With a parking spot directly in front of the front door, you’ll be able to walk straight through to the back of the house where I will have the studio set up and waiting. Take a seat on the sofa, where we will have time for me to make you a hot drink and you’ll have time to relax a moment before we get yourselves and baby ready for the session.

Studio address : 10 Sagan Rise, Leighton Buzzard, Lu73gh

During the session

The first portion of the session will take place on the beanbag as baby should be the most sleepy after their feed. Although I may reposition Baby a couple of times, the aim is to touch them as little as possible so they can stay comfy and cosy. This means that I will be moving around the beanbag to get those different angles and shots without having to move Baby

After the beanbag we will move on to incorporating the parents, starting with mum and bringing in the second parent. Again the aim is to disturb baby as little as possible to keep them settled, so we won’t keep swapping parent if it’s not necessary.

What to wear

For parents, I advise that you wear natural, neutral colours, such as beiges and browns. These colours compliment baby’s skin tone and will look beautiful in the finished pictures. If possible avoid cooler colours likes greys, blues and greens.

After the session

Up to 2 weeks after the session you’ll receive an email with the link to the gallery of carefully selected, 40+ images. You’ll be able to look through your images, with the online gallery staying available for a minimum of a year. You’ll be able to select the 15 images you want download as part of the session by using the ‘favourite’ function. Let me know when you’ve chosen, and I’ll send them to you via email. Via the gallery you’ll be able to upgrade your package, order prints, or share the gallery with friends and family.
